Ex-liverpool Manager & Director at Bootroom Academies

Bootroom Academies are very proud to have Liverpool Legend Roy Evans as a Director within the business. Roy is the most successful English manager in the history of the Premier League wining over 40 major trophies at his time at the club. After joining Liverpool as a youth, he signed professional in 1965, aged 16. After 9 years as a player, Bill Shankly then appointed him as first team coach in 1974. He remained as the first coach for 20 years and worked under the likes of Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness. In 1994 Roy became manager of Liverpool football club.

Roy had a highly successful 4 seasons managing Liverpool. He won the league cup in 1996 and he never finished below 4th in Premier League. He is also credited with bringing Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen through the academy and into the first team. Roy left the club in November 1998 after spending 36 years at the club professionally.

After leaving Liverpool, Roy worked as manager of Fulham FC and Swindon Town FC. He also worked as assistant manager for Wales and Wrexham FC. Roy is currently doing lots of TV/Media work and many personal appearances at different events all over the world.


Ex-International Footballer & Director of Performance at Bootroom Academies

Bootroom Academies are very proud to have Steve McMahon at the helm as Director of Performance with a hands-on approach working directly with our fully qualified team. Steve began his journey into football as a ball boy for Everton. He was then selected for the youth team and started his professional career in 1979 with the Blues, making 100 league appearances and scoring 11 goals in this time.

In 1993 he joined Aston Villa for £175,000. After 2 seasons at Villa Park he then decided to return to his home town of Liverpool and was Kenny Dalglish’s first signing at the club for £350,000 in September 1985, where he was an integral part of the success of the club, playing 277 games for the Reds and scoring 50 times. Bob Paisley perhaps encapsulated Steve’s dynamic qualities saying “When Steve McMahon plays well, I always think Liverpool will play well”.

Steve was a firm favourite with the Kop and one of the most respected men in the footballing industry. He was known as one of the hard men in football with his tough style of tackling and no-nonsense approach and this along with spectacular passing was the perfect style Liverpool at this time with his team mates of Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley. Steve has not only impacted on his time in the English leagues by playing over 500 games, but internationally has also started 17 England first team games.

After leaving Liverpool in 1991, he then spent 3 years at Manchester City where he made 87 league appearances before he headed to Swindon Town as player manager. After 4 years he left Swindon Town and returned to management with Blackpool, before trying his hand at managing in the new A league, with Perth Glory.

After his stint in Australia, Steve began his career in television and in 2006 he signed as a football pundit for Asia based ESPN based in Singapore. Steve quickly became a very popular and respected figure and a firm favourite with fans.

Steve then moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2014 to further his TV/Media career. He has also worked with academies in the UK and Asia and in 2016 he launched his ‘Find Stars of the Future’ reality show 'Million Dollar Feet' with the aim to find young Malaysian players that could make the Transition to an English Premier League Academy. Two talented boys were selected from thousands of applicants coached and mentored by Steve himself and are currently on a fully funded scholarship in the UK with the opportunity of a lifetime given by Steve to play professionally for a Premier League Club in the UK.


Bootroom Academies is headed up by 2 of the most respected men in the football industry, Roy Evans ex Liverpool manager and Steve McMahon ex professional international player and manager, whom have more than 80 years’ experience between them at the highest levels of football. They are now offering their wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on their expertise to others.

With Roy and Steve both starting at grassroots level, they are extremely passionate about the importance of progression and about the level and standard of coaching and education we offer at Bootroom Academies. All of our courses are delivered in a safe, enjoyable environment and there is no compromise on this standard. We offer a chance for everyone between the age of 4 and 19 to experience the extra high-quality coaching and/or education needed to utilise talent and develop in a fun and structured learning environment.

All our young people can play and learn in an environment where there is no fear of making mistakes and all are encouraged to express themselves. Our entire team see their roles as that of positive role models who can teach the importance of core values, hard work, perseverance, team working, goal setting with healthy competition. At Bootroom Academies we feel this is more than just about sport, it’s about reinforcing positive attitudes and lessons for life.

Bootroom Academies works in various locations delivering breakfast clubs, lunch time clubs, PPA sessions, after school sessions and Further Education courses. We work with individuals from aged 4 all the way up to aged 19, encouraging and developing young talent through expertise and vast experience both in the classroom and on the pitch. We work with children as young as reception age in primary schools coaching them core sports skills and values, all the way up to our more mature students aged 16 to 19 on our Further Education sports courses. We also have various College football teams that are coached and mentored by 'A Licenced' football coaches. We also offer Gym Instructor and Personal Training qualifications for those interested in Fitness within the Active Leisure industry.

Bootroom Academies is available to everyone no matter what level of ability,we have some players who have been released from an academy, and others whom are complete beginners. Our coaches are very well qualified and experienced to be able to coach relevant, appropriate and effective sessions. This is an opportunity for all players to be given the opportunity to improve and develop as a player and person, for talent to be recognised and also the potential to be scouted by a professional club.

Our Further Education Sports qualifications for 16 to 19 year olds offer UCAS points which can enable our students to progress onto Higher Education (University) should they wish. All students will also gain real work experience, being mentored by our fantastic and highly skilled Coaches. On successful completion of our qualification we also provide all students with the opportunity to apply for jobs within the sports industry, up-skilling them on how to write an effective CV and how to prepare for a recruitment process, enabling our next generation of students to have a future in the sector they love.

Bootroom Academies offer coaching and training courses to develop football skills in boys and girls aged 5-12 years.
